- <p> In the high-wire act of television, videotape is the
- safety net. A flubbed line or failed joke can be edited into
- oblivion. But for one TV series, the net is about to be removed:
- starting this fall, the Fox sitcom Roc will be broadcast live.
- Surprisingly, the daring deed is welcomed by Broadway actor
- CHARLES S. DUTTON, a.k.a. Roc, the beleaguered Baltimore
- garbageman. "Television is basically boring and unchallenging,"
- says Dutton, now starring opposite Sigourney Weaver in Alien 3.
- "You can learn lines the day you shoot. You don't have to put
- in any concentration in the rehearsals. Going live will
- intensify everything."
